Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy is set to receive the endorsement of the 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, according to a statement from the local.
The announcement from the country’s largest local comes on the same day Healy scored the backing of President Obama in what will likely be the most significant endorsement of the race.
The union is scheduled to a make a formal announcement at an event held at Liberty House Nursing Home on Thursday, March 21 at 10 a.m.

“Time and again, Mayor Healy has been a staunch advocate for Jersey City’s working families,” said Milly Silva, 1199SEIU Executive Vice President for New Jersey. “From his efforts to get illegal guns out of our neighborhoods, to defending the rights of homeowners facing foreclosure, to standing alongside caregivers as they advocate for their patients, we’ve come to know Mayor Healy as a champion for working people and for Jersey City’s elderly population.”
