Three-term North Brunswick Councilwoman Cathy Nicola today officially announced her candidacy to fill the vacancy on the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
The former president of the Middlesex County Federation of Democratic Women and the daughter of the late former mayor of North Brunswick, Charles Nicola, she is seeking the support of the Middlesex County Democratic Organization’s committee members at their upcoming county convention.
“Middlesex County is the best county in New Jersey, a fact that is due in large part to the hard work and Democratic values of our elected officials,” Nicola said. “I’m running for freeholder to continue the progress we have made and to make Middlesex an even better place to call home. It would be an honor and a privilege to represent the Democratic Party in this year’s election, and I look forward to personally meeting with and speaking to each member of our organization over the next coming weeks to ask for their support.”
Several local Democratic chairmen and elected officials, both past and present, are supporting Nicola, who’s pursuing a seat vacated by Freeholder Director Chris Rafano, who’s up for a judgeship.
Freeholder Ronald Rios of Carteret is in line to succeed Rafano as freeholder director, according to Cartert Mayor Dan Reiman.
The Middlesex County Democratic Organization will hold its convention on March 20th at the East Brunswick Vocational Technical School.
