Report: Rahway mayor in trouble

A municipal court judge found Rahway Mayor Rick Proctor guilty of soliciting a donation for funds to pay off an earlier fine imposed for campaign finance reporting violations, according to a report this morning in the Star-Ledger.

Proctor was fined $750 for violating a municipal ordinance when he asked a contractor for money at city hall in August 2011, according to the report by veteran reporter Tom Haydon.

“During a two-hour trial, prosecutor Barr said, witnesses testified that Proctor attended a meeting at city hall in August 2011 with a representative from the Birdsall Engineering Group of Cranford.”

Proctor later asked the Birdsall rep for a $7,000 donation to go toward paying off a $55,000 fine that the state Election Law Enforcement Commission levied against the Rahway Democratic Committee in 2010, witnesses said.
