The New Jersey State Fraternal Order of Police today threw its support to Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono.
Citing Buono’s stance on labor issues, FOP President Ed Brannigan said the organization would “stand shoulder to shoulder with a candidate who stands with us.” The FOP president also had some harsh words for Gov. Chris Christie.
“In 2008, then-candidate Chris Christie sat across the table from me and promised he would not touch our pensions,” Brannigan said. “And, then right out the gate, it was one of the first things he did. He lied. He reduced our pensions and benefits, including eliminating our cost of living wages. This time around my members were crystal clear. They feel that Governor Christie has continued a demoralizing attack on public employees over the last three-and-a half years.”
The cops wasted little time in issuing their endorsement this time around, forgoing their normal screening process of face to face interviews and questionnaires.
