The Central Terminal at LaGuardia Airport was evacuated this morning after reports of a suspicious package, according to law enforcement officials.
The evacuation was revealed to be a false alarm, and passengers were permitted to return to the terminal around fifteen minutes later.
The incident began at around 10.30 a.m. Sources told ABC that “an electrical device was found at a phone booth on the upper level departure of Terminal B, known as central terminal … Next to the bag is a substance that looks like marijuana.” The source also stated that, “wires appear to be coming from the bag.”
Many of the individuals evacuated took to Twitter to post photos of the crowds stranded outside the terminal with their luggage.
The Federal Aviation Administration put a ground stop in place for any planes scheduled to depart from the airport.
The city has been on high alert since yesterday, when two bombs detonated at the Boston Marathon, leaving three dead and more than 170 injured.
NYPD continues to patrol major landmarks, but there have been no reports of any specific threats to the city.
