As angst over the choice of the Democrats’ new state chair roils the party, we thought we’d look to the archives for some history on the post.
PolitickerNJ reported earlier this month that Presumptive Democratic gubernatorial nominee Barbara Buono favored Hudson County Assemblyman Jason O’Donnell as her choice for chair, a term he would serve for just six months if Buono loses the election.
Some party leaders fired back, calling O’Donnell a “non-starter” as party chairman. Buono stuck to her guns, telling PolitickerNJ that the choice is hers and she will not be dictated to. A handful of county party chairs have backed Buono and her right to choose her own chair as dictated by tradition.
Whoever takes over for current Chairman John Wisniewski – should Wisniewski be replaced – will become the state party’s 27th leader. A breakdown of the first 26 as compiled by the inimitable Wally Edge is attached below.
