Liberal advocacy group One NJ has released its second commercial attacking the record of Gov. Chris Christie.
The ad, which will air on cable television over the next two weeks, focuses on social issues, smacking the governor over his veto of $7.5 million in funding for Planned Parenthood and his support of anti-abortion candidates.
“Christie supports candidates who would outlaw abortion even in cases of rape or incest,” the commercial intones. “Maybe that’s what Christie meant when he said he was pro-life.”
One NJ has so far spent over $1 million to air two anti-Christie ads. The first ad focused on Christie’s economic record and has been on air over the past 10 days.
“Our latest spot shows how the knuckle-dragging decisions and out-of-step ideology coming out of Trenton are hurting women and their families throughout the state,” said spokesman Josh Henne. “For the past few years, New Jerseyans have had to deal with a radical assault on women and women’s health that would make even Rush Limbaugh blush.”
A Christie campaign spokesman criticized Buono for relying on an outside “special interest group to do her campaign’s dirty work.”
“With Sen. Buono’s record – 154 tax increases, reckless spending and a massive increase (in) debt, all of which led to unemployment doubling while she was Gov. Corzine’s budget architect – it is no surprise she needs to rely on an outside special interest group to do her campaign’s dirty work and run negative ad after negative ad,” said strategist Mike DuHaime.
A so-called 501 (c) (4) group, One NJ is prohibited from acting in concert with any candidate for office and is not required to disclose its donors. Christie is expected to reap millions in aid from outside expenditure groups once the campaign reaches full swing.
