Rutgers University’s athletic director is reportedly breaking from the university, according to published reports.
The Star-Ledger reports Tim Pernetti is the latest official expected to cut ties with Rutgers following controversy over basketball coach Mike Rice. The newspaper cited several anonymous sources with knowledge of Pernetti’s departure.
The paper didn’t say whether Pernetti would be fired or resign.
Rice was fired earlier this week after video surfaced of him physically and verbally abusing players.
New Jersey officials and lawmakers criticized Pernetti for not taking swift enough action against Rice when Pernetti first became aware of the controversy late last year.
