NEW BRUNSWICK – The Rutgers Board of Governors plans to have an independent investigation into the controversy surrounding former coach Mike Rice.
Plans for independent counsel to conduct an independent review into the controversy were announced Thursday during the board’s regular meeting.
“We have to get this review right,” said Gerald Harvey, vice chairman of the Rutgers Board of Governors, during brief remarks.
“We are absolutely determined to ensure the well being of all students here at Rutgers University,” he said. “We seek good governance.”
Board members spent more than two hours behind closed doors to deal with personnel matters after hearing from Senate President Steve Sweeney. The Senate’s top lawmaker called on board members to expel one of their own.
