The New Jersey State Industrial Union Council tonight endorsed state Senator Barbara Buono (D-18) for governor.
“The New Jersey State Industrial Union Council is proud to support Senator Buono for governor because she will stand up for families and workers across New Jersey,” said Carol Gay, president of the New Jersey State Industrial Union Council. “During her distinguished career of service, Senator Buono has advocated for policies that matter to the middle class, including raising the minimum wage, expanding affordable healthcare and creating good-paying jobs.
“Union workers know they have a friend in Senator Buono. She will protect every worker’s right to join a union, safeguard our ability to collectively bargain and champion legislation ensuring every worker earns a living wage. New Jersey needs a governor who will fight for unions, instead of demonizing them.”
The union cited Christie’s “failed economic policies” as having ravished New Jersey’s middle class and union members, “leaving too many New Jerseyans struggling to make ends meet or out of work.” New Jersey’s unemployment rate, currently at 9.3%, is one of the highest in the region.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the New Jersey State Industrial Union Council,” Senator Buono said. “Unions are the backbone of our state’s economy and our local communities, and I will fight every day to increase economic opportunity and fairness in New Jersey.”
