Ben Widdicombe is coming to The New York Observer. The former Gatecrasher columnist, who left The Daily News‘ since-revamped gossip column in 2008 (after an impressive four year run) will be a contributing editor and develop an original column for the paper. He will also continue in his current role as editor in chief of Gilt City, part of the Gilt Groupe.

“I have been a fan of The Observer for as long as I have lived in this city, and am honored to come on board as a contributing editor,” Mr. Widdicombe said. “Its readership is the quintessential tough New York crowd, and I look forward to keeping them informed and entertained.”

“This is just the latest good news for The Observer. Ben is the best, so obviously we’re excited to have him,” said Observer deputy editor Rafi Kohan. “He will contribute in a variety of capacities and serve as an invaluable resource. New York should be keeping its eye out for his byline.”
