Bergen County Republican Freeholders John Mitchell, John Felice, and Maura DeNicola, along with Bergen County Republican Sheriff Michael Saudino have received the endorsement of the Bergen County Education Association (BCEA.)
John Coppola, Jr., president of the BCEA, thanked the Republicans for their “strong support on issues facing public education in Bergen County.”
Political observers note that endorsements like the BCEA’s traditionally are bestowed on Democratic candidates.
Speaking for the Republican team, Mitchell (pictured) said, “We are honored to earn the support of Bergen County’s teachers and education support professionals for our re-election. This endorsement proves that when you put politics aside and do what is right for the people you serve, good things happen.”
As members of the Board of Chosen Freeholders, Felice, Mitchell and DeNicola said they have shepherded in a new era of fiscal responsibility to county government, holding property taxes stable and reducing county spending in their first budget. As Sheriff, Saudino said he has has streamlined his office’s budget to protect taxpayers while ensuring the core services of his office remain strong to improve public safety.
“Good government is non-partisan. Fiscal discipline that protects taxpayers, having strong public schools and keeping our neighborhoods safe are issues that affect all of us and they are the issues we have focused upon,” said Mitchell. “We are proud that the BCEA recognizes our commitment to good government and are sure they will be the first of many to support our re-election.”
