Christie appearing on cover of PEOPLE

Gov. Chris Christie’s “fight to get fit” landed a cover story on PEOPLE magazine’s newest issue set to hit the stands Friday.

New Jersey’s governor sat down with PEOPLE and discussed such topics as his lap-band surgery and plans for the White House, according to PEOPLE. The issue, which he shares a cover with alongside country music star Blake Shelton, is slated to be released tomorrow.

The magazine posted a preview of its interview Thursday in which the governor discussed his “most recent romantic treat” for First Lady Mary Pat.

“He actually got a hotel room and we ordered room service for dinner. And we weren’t disturbed,” Mary Pat told PEOPLE, referring to the Mother’s Day trip to New York City.

“It was a really great hotel with good food and it was really romantic and we left at 11 o’clock. We didn’t stay over, which, I think, was the coolest thing about it,” she said.
