Former Congressman Andy Maguire has filed paperwork to run in the 5th Congressional District.
Maguire, a Democrat who was elected to the House in 1974, would challenge Republican U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett.
Maguire held the seat for three terms before he was unseated by Republican Marge Roukema.
Maguire then mounted a bid for Senate coming in behind Sen. Frank Lautenberg in the 1982 primary. Garrett is among the most conservative representatives in the House and has served since 2002.
Maguire’s filing was first reported by Bloomberg.
