House of Cupcakes is opening up their New York City location on Thursday with a giant 25-pound, 35,800 calorie-cupcake named “The Mayor.” According to a press release announcing the event, the colossal cupcake will feature the face of none other than calorie-counting Mayor Michael Bloomberg, but the mayor himself isn’t excited about it.
“Oh, come on!” Mr. Bloomberg exclaimed incredulously as he interrupted an amNewYork reporter asking for his reaction at an unrelated press conference earlier today.
Although he didn’t say so specifically, it does not sound like Mr. Bloomberg will be among those attending the cupcake shop’s opening.
Rather, he shook his head, rolled his eyes and dismissed the inquiry.
“I just found out about it, you’re seeing my reaction,” he answered. “This is one of the dumbest things people have done. But if they can get some publicity, they’ve obviously co-opted you.”
