Contingent of South Jersey pols expected to endorse Booker

A large contingent of South Jersey Democrats is set to endorse Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Cory Booker Wednesday, according to a source familiar with the plan.

Booker, Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald have called a press conference for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Auletto’s Sunset Ballroom in Deptford.

The source said several other Democrats will be part of the endorsement in addition to the two legislative leaders.  South Jersey power broker George Norcross already has thrown his support to Booker as has state Sen. Jim Whelan (D-2).

The primary is less than two months away as Booker vies for the nomination against U.S. Reps. Frank Pallone (D-6) and Rush Holt (D-12) and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver.
