Dems set to meet tonight to talk strategy on U.S. Senate

A slew of high level Democrats led by Senate President Steve Sweeney are set to meet tonight in East Brunswick to discuss the U.S. Senate race.

According to two sources familiar with the meeting it is a strategy session and will include several factions of the party from all over the state.  Among those expected to attend are several county Democratic chairmen and a number of Democratic legislators, including leaders from both houses.

The death of U.S. Sen Frank Lautenberg last Monday set off a chain reaction among Democrats eager to fill his seat.  To date, U.S. Rep. Rush Holt and Newark Mayor Cory Booker have announced their intent to run and U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone has begun collecting signatures in advance of tomorrow’s deadline.
