TRENTON – A facility in Egg Harbor Township received a permit to grow medical marijuana, the state Health Department reported Thursday.
Compassionate Care Foundation Inc. received approval after a series of steps including background checks and site inspections, the department stated.
The Health Department said it will take three to four months to cultivate the medical marijuana. After the marijuana has been tested and OK’d, a permit will be issued to dispense it, the state said.
Compassionate Care Foundation has indicated it expects to open in September.
Approximately 1,000 patients and 223 physicians are signed up for the program, the state reported.
Several other treatment centers are in various stages of approval. One planned for Woodbridge is expected to be ready for inspection this summer, according to the department.
