Oliver tells Dems she’ll file papers to run for Senate tomorrow

Assembly Speaker Shiela Oliver said tonight she will seek the U.S. Senate seat vacated with the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

Oliver had been on the fence, with sources telling PolitickerNJ she was “seriously considering” a bid.  But tonight, Oliver told Democrats at a meeting in East Brunswick that she will run for the seat, according to two sources who were present at the meeting.

Oliver told the gathered Democrats she will file tomorrow.

Early this week, Oliver began gathering signatures for a potential run, but sources would not say definitively that she is in. Her entrance into the race pits her against Newark Mayor Cory Booker and U.S. Rep. Rush Holt, who have already announced, and U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, who is expected to announce tomorrow.
