As PolitickerNJ.com reported following Jersey City Mayor-elect Steve Fulop’s victory last month, the leadership of the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO) is about to change.
HCDO Chairman Mark Smith, the mayor of Bayonne, will step down next week, clearing the way for Assemblyman Vincent Prieto (D-32), Secaucus, to become the next HCDO chairman.
A source close to Smith said he was thinking about fighting because he thought he may have the votes. But he recognized that the unity of the party after a tough Jersey City fight was more important, the Smith ally said.
Also, the source said, in light of the ongoing state chair fight and his re-election campaign for mayor of Bayonne next year, Smith thought it made most sense to concentrate on the greater good of the party.
