U.S. Rep. Rush Holt’s (D-12) team would not say anything on the record regarding the Congressman’s political designs on the vacant U.S. Senate seat.

Like Newark Mayor Cory Booker and U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Holt is mourning the death of the late U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg.

But Gov. Chris Christie’s announcement today that there will be a Democratic Primary on August 13th is a “game changer,” according to a source close to Holt.

The congressman’s team is looking closely at a run and weighing a run, the source said.

The source characterized Holt’s examination as “serious.”
