TRENTON – Believe it or not, elected officials approved a Fiscal Year 2014 budget last week.
The nearly $33 billion spending plan cleared both chambers and was approved by Gov. Chris Christie late last week in a no-frills private signing. The FY 2014 budget came and left with little – emphasis on little – discussion and debate.
If there’s a battle to be had over the spending plan it will come at the end of the year when lawmakers are briefed on updated revenue figures. So, of course, there will be more to come, but just don’t expect to hear it this week.
It’s the July 4 week and all signs point to crickets being the loudest things in the Statehouse halls.
A battle between both chambers could be brewing over legislation dealing with Rutgers that failed to make it on the Assembly floor for a vote late last week, but that can will likely be kicked down the road until the following week.
If there’s excitement this week it will be on the campaign trail – not in the Statehouse.
