Former U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg’s family has made no secret that they support U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone to succeed the now deceased Lautenberg, and this week they have been out on the trail stumping for the Monmouth County congressman.
Today, Pallone’s campaign launched a new robocall from Lautenberg’s son Josh.
“Because Congressman Pallone is a man that we know works hard for New Jersey every single day, my family has wholly endorsed Frank Pallone for U.S. Senate,” Josh Lautenberg says in the call.
“As a progressive candidate with a proven track record of getting tough legislation passed in Congress, Frank is the best choice to continue my father’s legacy. He will work to keep our shores clean, to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable health care, and he will uphold the democratic principles that inspired my father every day.”
Earlier this week Lautenberg’s widow appeared with Pallone at a former Superfund site declaring that the congressman was Lautenberg’s “Go-to guy” on the environment.
Pallone is facing Newark Mayor Cory Booker, U.S. Rep. Rush Holt and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver in next month’s Democratic primary. Booker is the clear favorite in the race and in their earlier endorsement, Lautenberg’s family made a veiled reference to the Newark mayor as a “Show horse” instead of a “work horse”
Lautenberg and Booker famously clashed earlier this year when Booker made clear he intended to seek Lautenberg’s seat whether the senator was ready to give it up or not.
