Oliver dings opponents in fundraising email pitch for U.S. Senate run

Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34) wants money for her U.S. Senate campaign.

In an email blast to supporters tonight she made the case for why people should donate $10 or $25 to her, while slamming her three opponents.

“In Trenton, I’ve stood strong against Chris Christie and his destructive agenda,” said Oliver. “He knows that he dare not assault women’s rights while I’m Speaker of the House. I’ve stood strong for our progressive, Democratic values. But, I also know how to compromise and work across party lines to get things done.”

Then she went and gonged Newark Mayor Cory Booker, U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-6) and U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-12).

“New Jersey doesn’t need a friend of Chris Christie representing us in the United States Senate,” she said. “And, we don’t need yet another career Washington politician either. We need real change. Right now.”

Reporters yesterday in Newark quizzed Oliver on her candidacy, which to date has not radiated high energy.

She insisted she’s running and welcomed PolitickerNJ.com to her campaign headquarters in Newark.

“I’m running for the United States Senate because it’s time to make history,” she said in her email blast. “Too many of our Senators just don’t get it. They don’t know what it’s like to be a working mom trying to raise kids and put food on the table. They don’t understand that women have different healthcare needs than men and that our healthcare facilities shouldn’t be under constant assault.”
