Mr. Karp.

Cooling Last month, Tumblr CEO David Karp sallied forth to the Cannes Lions festival/advertising love-in, as part of a charm offensive meant to convince potential clients they should flog their brands on the social network.

He also took the time to sit down beachside with an NBC anchor, singing the praises of fancy-pants advertising: “If you took all the ads out of Vogue, one it would be a much smaller magazine, but two it would be much less the magazine. those ads are great content, they’re a big part of the experiences,” he said. “What we’re here this week to do is to push more of those most creative advertisers to make ads that make Tumblr better, that make for more great, fun stuff on Tumblr to enjoy.”

He looked like the frontman for an early 2000s indie rock band making an appearance on an MTV Spring Break special, which is a great little symbol for how users are going to flip if they decide Tumblr’s selling out.

Heat Wave Hell Seems Thrillist CEO Ben Lerer forgot the first rule of miserably hot weather, which is never combine it with self-inflicted bodily trauma. “hangover + this weather = sadness,” he tweeted at 8:12 a.m. this morning. Rough, dude.

Down Lo Opinionated Twitter user, The Hills cast-off and “woman in tech” Lo Bosworth (and her side braid) took a break from planning parties for rich millennials and popped over to Mashable HQ today. The Revelery House cofounder kept the purpose of her trip to the social news factory mum (maybe she was looking for a cooling center?) but we’re expecting a slideshow any moment now.

jOBS update We’re less than 30 days away from the release of Ashton Kutcher‘s Oscar bait biopic about the life of Steve Jobs and this week, we got another sneak peek. In an Instagram video, we got our first taste of a furious Mr. Kutcher walking around furiously and screaming at colleagues. Ah, sounds like the good old days at Apple. The movie is slated for an August 16 release.

Wait, what? There’s not much to say about this other than that Steve Wozniak sure covers a lot of ground:

Vine-ally Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives John Boehner is hip and with it. How do we know? He has a Vine account now. He posted his first microvideo last night. It depicts a pair of Republican congressmen being lint-rolled by handlers prior to the weekly GOP address. With riveting content like that, it’s hard to believe the speaker only has 26 followers.

/r/base-tan Alexis Ohanian, cofounder of Reddit and tech entrepreneur, spent last weekend on the Jersey Shore, specifically Asbury Park. His social media trail included stops at pizzeria-cum-nightclub Porta (he must have seen this month’s rave review in the Times) and at the Beach Bar in historic Convention Hall, where he noted, “Buckets of rum are always a good idea.” Also, according to Foursquare, he’s spent 12 straight weeks at bars and is “only three weeks away from a new record.” Congrats.

Editor-in-cheat The Daily Beast did a piece on the fine line between “emotional cheating” and “harmless fantasy,” and writer Lizzie Crocker selected ben smith as a pseudonym for her story’s main subject. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because BuzzFeed’s editor-in-chief rocks the same one. Mr. Smith tweeted about it, “Could they not have chosen a different fake name.” Ms. Crocker retweeted him, adding, “all part of my grand plan.”

Perplexing. But even more perplexing was Ms. Crocker’s insistence in the story that “Smith, 37, is hardly a sexual aardvark.” What is a sexual aardvark? Someone with a long nose? An ant fetish? Lizzie, if you’re reading this, please let us know.
