African American clergy from throughout New Jersey gathered at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark today to endorse Newark Mayor Cory Booker for U.S. Senate.
Metropolitan Baptist Church Pastor Dr. David Jefferson – the mayor’s personal confessor – praised Booker for his compassion and ability to bring people together to find solutions to issues facing Newark families.
“Cory Booker is incredibly passionate about helping people and wanting to see things change for the better. People are returning to Newark because of the significant progress Mayor Booker and his team have made,” Dr. Jefferson said. “That’s the kind of person I want representing New Jersey in Washington.”
“The leaders gathered here today are working every day to improve the lives of the people in their communities, and I am extraordinarily humbled and grateful for their support,” Booker said. “They are on the front lines, fighting to make sure that this nation lives up to its ideals.”
