Democratic gubernatorial nominee Barbara Buono will not file for additional matching funds today, a spokesman for the campaign confirmed.
Two weeks ago, Buono filed $445,000 to qualify for the program, a total that would net her about $640,000 in state funds should the Election Law Enforcement Commission approve all donations.
That filing was Buono’s only submission of the general election season. Today, Gov. Chris Christie filed $4.13 million to qualify for the program and with the matched amount, will have about $12 million in his war chest.
The state program matches $2 for every $1 raised by the candidate and caps spending at just over $12 million. Buono qualified for the program in the primary campaign and raised about $1.1 million, short of the state imposed maximum.
