TRENTON – A possible 2016 candidate for president, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley promised to come back to New Jersey to campaign for embattled Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono.
“I do support Barbara,” O’Malley told reporters. “I spoke to Barbara during the course of last week. I anticipate coming back to New Jersey. I think she will make an excellent governor, especially in the area of job creation.”
Formerly the head of the Democratic Governor’s Association (DGA), O’Malley has clashed in the past with Republican Gov. Chris Christie.
“One of the highest unemployment rates in the country,” he said derisively of Christie’s New Jersey tenure.
O’Malley said once Buono crystallizes that message, she will gain traction and be successful against Christie.
