When you go home tonight to unhinge your jaw to pour four bottles of Riesling down the hatch, take comfort in the fact that you’re not alone. A new study released by, who else, a wine bottling company, said Wednesday (tonight!) at around 7 p.m. is the most common time during the week to drink vino.
At about 6:40 p.m. is when men start drinking wine, while the research found that women start about a half later. Around 76 percent of survey takers said they’d rather stay inside and probably watch House Hunters while casually playing Dots than enjoy that glass of wine at a bar. As for why Wednesday, the company said people treat wine consumption as a “midweek treat” since Monday and Tuesdays are typically sober days.
A woman echoed those thoughts to news.com.au:
“[I always get] into my pyjamas and enjoy a few glasses at around 7pm with my dinner. It’s the perfect time to sit on the sofa and share a nice bottle of red,” adding that she doesn’t “necessarily polish the bottle off, but it really takes the edge off and helps me relax in the middle of a hectic week.”
Somewhere Kathie Lee and Hoda are celebrating that their Winesday Wednesday is a thing.
