The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents the Les Blank Tribute Program. Led by Harrod Blank and archivist Mark Toscano, the night is a salute to Les Blank, the prolific, award-winning American documentary director, producer and cinematographer who died in April of this year. Mr. Blank’s poetic, vibrant films captured culture on the periphery of society. Three of his most celebrated and popular pieces, all beautifully restored prints, will be shown: “Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe,” “Dry Wood” and Garlic is as Good as Ten Mothers.
Museum of the Moving Image, 36-01 35th Avenue, Queens, (718) 777-6888, 7-9pm, free for museum members on a first-come, first-served basis, $12 for nonmembers.
