To Do Friday: The Franco Regime

Royal Box Arrivals At "Chime For Change: The Sound Of Change Live" ConcertThe multi-hyphenate James Franco does so much so well—besides acting, à la his brilliant cameo as Hugh Hefner in Lovelace—that it’s a challenge to keep up with all of his projects. His book California Childhood, which came out in June, is a scrapbook-y collection of personal memories, sketches, paintings, poems, and other flotsam and jetsam. Tonight in the Strand bookstore’s fifth-floor loft space, Mr. Franco and the poet Frank Bidart (the author of Music Like Dirt, which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize) will discuss their work, consider the creative process and remember their childhoods in California.

The Strand, 828 Broadway, (212) 473-1452, 7-8pm, $25 with book purchase.
