A bill that would authorize the New Jersey Racing Commission to grant a special permit to hold a horse race on the beach was conditionally vetoed by the governor.
Under the bill, races would have occurred between the mean high water line and either the vegetation line or a man-made feature generally parallel to the ocean.
The sponsor, Assemblyman John Burzichelli, was reviewing the CV to determine how to proceed and there was a chance the bill could be added to today’s Assembly session but it was uncertain.
Portions regarding the actual conducting of races remained in the bill. Portions that would permit wagering were CV’d.
