Sure, you’re probably thinking about Miami Basel right now, scoping out the exhibitor list, booking accommodations, but Art Basel’s director, Marc Spiegler, already has his mind on his flagship fair, which runs June 19 through 22 next year, and today announced a somewhat minor—but interesting—change: the Statements section, which invites each exhibitor to show work by a single emerging artist, will moved from Hall 1 of Messe Basel into Hall 2, which is home to the main Galleries section, as well as the Feature and Edition sectors. In addition, the number of galleries will be reduced.

Mr. Spiegler shared his reasoning behind the decisions in a statement: “Moving Statements to Hall 2 will ensure that these young galleries and their emerging artists will reach the widest possible audience of potential patrons. And reducing the sector’s size will push its quality even higher.”

There you have it. Applications are due for the big fair by Sept. 20.
