City Council picks Quintana as Newark’s council president

The Newark City Council on Wednesday night picked Councilman Luis Quintana to serve as Newark’s Council President.

Quintana was elected by a majority vote with the lone abstention coming from Councilman Carlos Gonzalez.

If Mayor Cory Booker wins his U.S. Senate race bext month and leaves the mayor’s seat, Quintana would become acting mayor until the seat is officially filled nine months from that point.
