Comptroller John Liu is joining the Bill de Blasio bandwagon.
Mr. Liu, who was defeated by Mr. de Blasio in the Democratic mayoral primary earlier this month, will endorse his former rival today, according to sources. The announcement will be at a press conference in front of the Manhattan Municipal Building.
Previously, Mr. Liu had declined to throw his support to Mr. de Blasio, even as Bill Thompson and Christine Quinn, who placed second and third respectively in the primary, did exactly that.
Mr. Liu, the fourth-place finisher, saw his campaign derailed by a fund-raising scandal that resulted in guilty verdicts against two of his former associates.
Nevertheless, Mr. Liu maintains strong support in the city’s growing Asian-American population and his endorsement, although expected, could help Mr. de Blasio in the November election.
