Newark Mayor Cory Booker today enlisted former Democratic National Chairman and current Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe to aid in his fundraising efforts.
McAuliffe is running for governor of Virginia and in an email request sent today compared his opponent, Republican Ken Cuccinelli, to the GOP’s nominee for U.S. Senate in New Jersey, Steve Lonegan.
“Both Cuccinelli and Lonegan want to criminalize abortion even in the case of rape and incest, McAuliffe said, adding “That’s why Mayor Booker and I are both working hard to make sure that the people of New Jersey and America aren’t represented by right-wing politicians who want to make healthcare decisions for women that should be between them and their doctors.”
Cuccinelli is Virginia’s Attorney General and filed one of the first suits on behalf of a state challenging the president’s healthcare overhaul. Recent polls have McAuliffe up by as many as 10 in the closely watched race.
Booker topped $8 million in fundraising as of July 24 and has held several high-dollar fundraisers that have included A-list Hollywood stars. However, the latest request for a $5 donation is targeting the “mom and pop” donors that President Obama cultivated so successfully in both his runs for office.
