Morning Read: ‘Rode a Great White Bareback Through New York Harbor’

Bill de Blasio

A younger Bill de Blasio found in today’s New York Post.

Headline of the Day: “De Blasio’s bleary, dreary eyes of youth.”

Bill de Blasio has been minimizing his exposure on the campaign trail, with aides limiting the time for questions to roughly five minutes after press conferences. “The less exposure you have, the less likely you’ll say something dumb,” Doug Muzzio explained. Later today, however, Mr. de Blasio will be holding his first meet-and-greet with voters in over two weeks–the only item on his public schedule.

The New York Post took a few more thwacks at Mr. de Blasio this morning, whom they said “ignored Nicaragua anti-Semitism” and took a college yearbook photo that featured “a far-away gaze.” Additionally, the publication listed Zimbabwe, Cuba and Nicaragua as his “favorite countries” and asked, “What is it about Bill de Blasio that attracts him to leaders of some of the world’s most loathsome regimes?”

New York Times columnist Michael Powell was not swayed by Joe Lhota‘s “Marxist” attacks on Mr. de Blasio, to say the least. “Mr. Lhota not only jumped the shark, he rode a Great White bareback through New York harbor,” Mr. Powell wrote. “Mr. Lhota presumably can free himself and run a stronger and less inadvertently comic campaign.”

John Catsimatidis sat down with the Daily News and proceeded order a very healthy amount of Greek food as he mused about his loss to Mr. Lhota. “It doesn’t smell right,” Mr. Catsimatidis said, convinced that votes for him were lost somewhere. He promised to conduct “a full investigation.” Over Twitter, Mr. Catsimatidis said he got hungry reading the story.
