TRENTON – The first week of the month brings a familiar tone from September in the Statehouse halls.
Relative silence.
A handful of Senate and Assembly lawmakers will meet Monday to take up a few items on the agenda, including a third joint hearing slated to occur in the Statehouse dealing with Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts.
Lawmakers already held similar hearings in southern and northern areas of the state. On Monday, Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Richard Constable and Marc Ferzan, the executive director of the Office of Recovery and Rebuilding, were, again, invited to speak at the hearing. However, neither office responded to an inquiry about whether they planned to attend the joint hearing.
Also, members of the Senate Commerce committee will vote Monday on a few pieces of proposed legislation, including A1545/S2116, which would streamline the process for reinstatement of suspended or inactive professional licenses regulated by the Division of Consumer Affairs.
The bill, which cleared the full Assembly in March with unanimous support, allows for quick licensure upon proof of out-of-state licensure from jurisdictions with “substantially equivalent” standards.
Reciprocity may only be granted if equal reciprocity is provided to a New Jersey applicant for licensure under the law of that other state.
But as Monday passes so does the Statehouse’s legislative calendar.
The rest of the week’s Statehouse schedule is bare and, as with the previous week, the rest of the action will be on the campaign trails.
