Bramnick to Dems: not so fast on leadership

Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick (D-21) hears the backroom murmuring going on right now among Democrats concerning legislative leadership.

Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34) yesterday began calling around to notify allies that she wants to pursue a third term as speaker, as first reported by PolitickerNJ.com.

Across the river in Hudson County, Assemblyman Vincent Prieto (D-32) also stands poised to run for speaker of the Democratic Majority.

“They’re getting a little ahead of themselves,” Bramnick said. “First they’ve got to get a majority.”

Asked where he’s playing to pick up nine seats to wrest power from the Democrats, Bramnick gave a devilish non-answer.

But there’s more than enough evidence that he’s trying to topple Assemblyman Nelson Albano in LD 1. The GOP is also trying to pick off seats in LD 38.

The presence of Gov. Chris Christie in LD 18 this week gave strong indications that the GOP also wants a piece of Middlesex.
