“I’m going to be an editor at the site and am incredibly excited about the opportunity,” Ms. Wasserman confirmed this evening. According to Capital co-editor Josh Benson, Ms. Wasserman will be “working on a bunch of stuff” in her new position.

Ms. Wasserman was the Brooklyn borough chief at the Daily News, where she spent 27 years, until she was laid off this past spring as part of the newspaper’s restructuring.

“We’re really looking forward to working with JoAnne,” Mr. Benson said in an email to The Observer. “She’s a total pro and we feel lucky that she’s going to be a part of this thing.”

Capital has been staffing up since Politico publisher Robert Allbritton announced that he had purchased the New York-focused site last month.

A redesigned website is in the works and is expected sometime this fall, as are more hiring announcements.
