Commemorating his achievements over a cumulative dozen years in public office, the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) yesterday honored former Jersey City Corporation Counsel Bill Matsikoudis with its Joseph I. Mulligan, Jr. Distinguished Public Service Award.
Matsikoudis received the award at IMLA’s annual conference in San Francisco, where he was invited to lecture as an expert in the use of litigation to remediate and redevelop industrially-contaminated urban land.
The Distinguished Public Service Award is given to a city attorney that has “realized significant and surpassing achievements in the field of local government law … [that] have benefited all local government attorneys, both locally and nationally.”
Since leaving City Hall, Matsikoudis has teamed with former Assistant Corporation Counsel Derek Fanciullo to form the private public-interest firm Matsikoudis & Fanciullo, LLC. The firm will be located in Jersey City, and specialize in environmental litigation and urban redevelopment.
