Look, there are two sides of every debate, and we’re sure the House Republicans that have been defending John Boehner during the government shutdown have reasons that sound sane (at least to their own ears). But a really bad way to get the rest of the country to agree with you is going on national television and talking down to women, as Representative Todd Rokita found out today.
While discussing several of the representative’s unpopular decisions–like taking a paycheck during a time when most government employees aren’t being paid, and believing that shutting down the government is a good way to deal with Obamacare–the egregious and ridiculous Rokita decided his best plan of attack was to call his interviewer, CNN’s Carol Costello, “beautiful” before adding “but you have to be honest.”
Ha, what?

Of course, the easy joke here is that Congressman Rokita is neither beautiful nor honest, nor, apparently, from the 21st century. Luckily, we live in a time when sometimes the easy joke is the best joke, even if you’ve seen the same comment on a bunch of other blogs (at least we didn’t headline with “mansplain“) because it’s the truth and f*ck this guy.
