GOP Bergen County Executive Kathe Donovan issued an edorsement this morning.
Yes, that’s an endorsement; as in, singular.
The excutive’s boostering of incumbent Republican Freeholder Maura DeNicola was notable owing to the absence of other countywide Republican candidates, including the executive’s intra-party foe Sheriff Mike Saudino, and indicative of the GOP divide with itself in Bergen.
“Maura is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in and she stands by her convictions,” Donovan said in an email blast. “To me, this is one of the most important qualities in an elected official. This was never so apparent in her stand against the weakening of the pay-to-play ordinance earlier this year. She alone stood against the ordinance that weakened a strong pay-to-play legislation voted in only a year ago. She alone fought against this practice that for many years cast a shadow over Bergen County.”
