Levesque stepping down as Mercer GOP chair

Rich Levesque intends to step down as chairman of the Mercer County GOP at an MCRC Executive Board meeting scheduled for next week, Nov. 25.

At the same meeting, Mercer Republicans will attempt to select a successor.

“Although I have derived considerable satisfaction from serving as Chair of this organization, pressing professional and other political demands prevent me from continuing to devote my full energies as MCRC Chair,” Levesque swrote in a letter to county party members. “My resignation will take effect upon selection of a successor Chair on Monday, November 25th. Thus, there will be no actual vacancy in this position and therefore there will be no lack continuity. It is important for my successor to be selected by the MCRC Executive Board.”

The vice president of MWW’s Trenton office, Levesque became chair of the party in June of last year. He had told allies in the party that he intended to remain as chairman until the completion of the November general election.

“I am proud of the effort many of you have made, in the fact that Governor Chris Christie carried Mercer County and we had many successes at the municipal level,” Levesque wrote. “Our candidate recruitment went very well this year and all of our candidates performed well beyond any reasonable expectation.  Important issues were raised and advanced on behalf of the residents of Mercer County by our Republican candidates this year. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as the MCRC Chair and I wish you all the very best in the future.”
