Later today, Bill de Blasio will be at the Talking Transition tent, holding his first public event since last Saturday–his second such event since the previous Monday. But his wife, Chirlane McCray, insisted yesterday that “it’s still early in the process” while visiting the same tent. (She declined to provide any specifics on the transition.)
Mr. de Blasio was unimpressed with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie suggesting New Yorkers should flee to his state. “Governor Christie’s latest political stunt doesn’t merit a serious response,” de Blasio spokeswoman Lis Smith said yesterday. “New York City is the greatest city in the world and will continue to be under Mayor-elect de Blasio.”
While The Epoch Times has more on the de Blasio white truffle story, including the fact that Roger Turgeon, principal of the cooking school he donated it to, “had never cooked with a white truffle before. So he decided to invite chefs from restaurants that serve truffles.”
Over in the speaker’s race, some members are reportedly pushing for a secret ballot to avoid antagonizing the labor backers of Melissa Mark-Viverito. “They don’t want the unions to know,” a source told the Daily News. “1199 would chop their heads off.”
“The progressive bloc is going to negotiate with a set of priorities in mind, like rules reform, committee chairpersons and yes, preferences for speaker. But the bloc fully expects to work with county leaders in figuring out all of those issues in a productive, cooperative way,” a source familiar with the progressives’ negotiations told Capital New York.
