The Senate president threw his support Thursday behind John Currie as party chairman.
Senate President Steve Sweeney said in a release that “I am proud to announce my support for John Currie for a full term as Democratic Party Chairman.
“John has distinguished himself in an accomplished career serving the Democratic Party. He has gained the respect of party activists throughout the state and has forged trusting relationships with elected officials at all levels.
“I trust in his ability to provide strong and steady leadership for the Democratic Party as we enter an important time with great opportunities for political success.”
Currie, who heads the Passaic County Democrats, is seeking a full two-year term of the state committee. He was named as a compromise candidate last June after Barbara Buono’s backing of Assemblyman Jason O’Donnell caused friction.
