TRENTON – Gov. Chris Christie this afternoon thanked the man who will be replaced as Attorney General by Kevin O’Dowd next year.
John Hoffman became acting AG after Jeff Chiesa was named a temporary U.S. senator upon the death of Frank Lautenberg earlier this year.
Christie was asked if Hoffman had been in the running for a permanent post as AG.
“Ultimately I made the judgment that the best person for the job was Kevin O’Dowd,” Christie said. “It’s no reflection on John, it’s a reflection on Kevin.”
“He did a great job being the temporary steward.”
“I’ve known John a long time, I hired him at the U.S. Attorney’s Office,’’ Christie said.
“I’m really grateful I had John over there. He’s done a wonderful job stewarding that department over the last six months.”
