TRENTON – The Assembly Transportation Committee reported Thursday that on Monday it will take testimony from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s executive director on the decision by the agency to close – without public notice – access lanes to the George Washington Bridge in September.
The panel had subpoenaed Executive Director Patrick Foye last week. An earlier hearing saw Deputy Executive Director Bill Baroni attend and he engaged in a sometimes testy give-and-take with Chair Assemblyman John Wisniewski.
The Committee will meet on Monday at 10 a.m. in Committee Room 11 on the fourth floor of the Statehouse Annex.
Baroni apologized for the way the decision was handled, and wanted to focus on the need to study traffic lanes that are dedicated to Fort Lee at the inconvenience of 95 percent of bridge users.
Wisniewski and other Democrats wanted to hone in on accountability at the Authority for the decision-making.
