A Gov. Chris Christie right-hand man is slated to take a top role at the Republican Governors Association, the RGA announced Thursday.
Bill Stepien will join the national organization as an advisor on political operations and independent expenditures. Stepien served as the governor’s deputy chief of staff and more recently as campaign manager of Christie’s re-election bid.
“As campaign manager for both of Governor Chris Christie’s historic victories in New Jersey, Bill has proven he knows how to win challenging governors’ races in blue states. He will be an invaluable asset for the RGA’s political operation in 2014,” said RGA Executive Director Phil Cox in a statement. “Governor Christie’s historic landslide victory this past year proves Republicans can compete and win in any state. With 36 governors’ races in 2014, Bill’s expertise and leadership will be critical to our efforts.”
Stepien also served as campaign manager for Christie’s first gubernatorial run. In 2008, he worked as a national field director for Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.
