“Shannon Ebner’s art investigates the multiple ways language is used, abused, and reinvested with meaning in public contexts,” stated Iftikhar Dadi, the chair of Cornell’s art department, in a news release.” Her work is exemplary for the thoughtfulness in the way it’s realized in material and form, for its sensitive understanding of the place where it’s located, and in its philosophical and social character.”

As mentor, Ms. Ebner will visit Cornell throughout the semester, meeting and working with students. She will give lecture titled “Shannon Ebner and the Photographic Sentence” on Feb. 3 that is open to the public. Ms. Ebner has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Hammer Museum and MoMA PS1, and her work has been included in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Biennial, the Berlin Biennial, the 54th Venice Biennale and MoMA.
